I Feel a Loop Coming on

(Loop, Loop, Loop, Loop, Loop, Loop, Loop)...I hope you got the reference!

Alright, this  page is dedicated to crochet, knitting, making stuff, and being awesome at doing these things.  I crochet more than knit, but I am learning to knit a little better.

My battle with the needle:  I hope you readers know I'm still talking about knitting and crochet...good grief.  My lovely mother used to crochet a long time ago and made baby blankets for me and my older sister when when were in el womb.  The blankets are adorable.  After 20+ years the blankets are still in perfect condition and have sentimental value attached since mama dukes made them.  Now,  being that I've always loved making things, using my hands, watching the progress of my hard-work, I decided to start crocheting myself.  After deciding I wanted to crochet, I waited 10 years to learn...getting motivated is difficult.  Anywho, once I decided what I wanted to make, an awesome infinity scarf, I went to Michaels (which is now one of my favorite stores) and purchased a set of crochet hooks and a couple skeens of yarn.  New York City was pretty chilly and a scarf seemed like the perfect addition to my scarfless wardrobe.  So I had a bunch of supplies and no idea how to crochet, which is a step in the right direction, but still not enough to make anything.   My mom lived thousands of miles away in Florida, so I had to youtube crocheting.  It was a simple a free way to learn the craft.  After a couple videos I was more confused than ever!  Flustered, I called my mom and asked her to remember 25 years ago, how she crocheted my baby blanket.  That's not asking too much, is it?  To the average person, maybe, but to my mom it was a easy.  She remembered everything and tried her all to explain the process to me with as much patience and detail as possible.  The student was surely the problem because it just was not clicking for me.  I managed to not make a single stitch for about 30 minutes as my mom was giving  perfect directions on the other end of the phone line.  Then, that magical light bulb went off in my brain and my mother's instructions seemed into my brain and voila, I made a couple stitched.  Holy smokes I was proud and I'm sure my mom was proud AND relieved to hang up the phone and relax after the ordeal.

Post mother's guidance: I worked relentlessly to make my scarf over the next week or so.  To this day it's still my favorite scarf.  It's such a mess: giant gaps, stitches I don't think anyone else in the history of crocheting has ever made, it's uneven everywhere, it's much longer than any scarf I've ever seen.  YET, it is perfect.  It's is my first crochet project and I love it.

Left: the sad, sad gaps and uneven size of my infinity scarf.  Lol.

Right: my lovely scarf coiled up.

NOW:  I'm pretty good with a crochet hook.  While in Florida for a few months me and my mom took a crochet class at Boynton Beach High School's adult education program.  It was 7 weeks of crocheting taught by a cute, little, older, black woman that was obsessed with crocheting.  After that class I went nuts making scarves, blankets, slippers, wash cloths, hats, belts, etc.  Now I crochet often.  Now I'm not completely clueless.  Now it's incredibly relaxing to crochet.  Now I'm hooked and I will never be able to put down the needle (again...crochet and knitting needles).
